LONG BRANCH -- Two men were charged this week with possession of about 17 pounds of marijuana, police said Wednesday.

The marijuana, worth about $30,000 in street sales, was found on Tuesday when police raided a Cottage Avenue apartment, Detective Lt. Bruce Johantgen said.

Roy T. Davis, 44, of Georgia and William Locust, 20, of Grant Court were each charged with possession of more than five pounds of marijuana, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana and distribution within 1,000 feet of a school zone.

Davis' bail was set at $200,000, and Locust's bail was set at $75,000. They both were taken to the Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township, and remained there as of yesterday.

The Community Response and Criminal Investigation Units of the Long Branch Police Department and the Monmouth County Narcotics Strike Force investigated the case for about a month, authorities said.
